Now that spring is here, it won’t be long before it is severe weather season! No matter where you live, whether it’s in an apartment in Orlando, Florida, Newnan, Georgia or Lexington, South Carolina, there is a threat for severe weather. The best website to prepare for severe weather is ready.gov. This is a FEMA website with all of the information you will need to prepare for severe weather.
If you live in Florida or near the coast, hurricanes are a major possibility. It is important to be prepared in the event of a hurricane. The Weather Channel’s website is a great resource that provides informative advice on being ‘weather ready”, such as how to prepare, what supplies are needed, safety and much more. In Florida, the biggest threat of severe weather comes from hurricanes. It is extremely important to understand the basic Hurricane Safety measures. In other parts of the country, tornadoes can also be a major threat in areas such as Houston, Texas where Concord community residents recently witnessed severe storms. We invite you to check out what the Weather Channel has to say about Tornado safety. Don’t forget about those furry companions! Here are some tips for Pet safety during an emergency.
For both hurricane and tornado preparedness, it is important to know shelters that are located nearest to you. To find the nearest shelter in your area, simply text ‘SHELTER + your ZIP code’ to ‘43362’ (4FEMA). Example: shelter 32839.

For residents at Harbor Cove in Gainesville, Florida or Mission Pointe in Orlando, Florida, we realize you may already be enjoying our swimming pools for a few months now. However, if you’re just defrosting like our residents at Hunt Club in Lansing, Michigan, spring is the season of the fresh start. With the grass growing, new leaves on the trees and the weather starting to change, it’s the time of the year to begin new things. Spring is the season for out with the old, in with the new!
This means it’s time for the task of spring cleaning. While you take time cleaning your apartment home regularly, “spring” cleaning is when you “take extra time” to clean things you have avoided all year. It’s the time to vacuum under the couch, dust the top shelf of your cabinets and scrub the bathroom. It’s the time to clean your entire apartment home from top to bottom! Having a clean apartment home can positively affect your life in many ways - it can reduce stress, make your home feel larger and, not to mention, make it look better!
Most people think of cleaning the carpet or cleaning the kitchen and the bathroom as “spring cleaning”, but it doesn’t stop there. Many of our apartments feature easy-to-clean Berber-style carpet, which should make carpet cleaning a breeze and allow you to spend your time cleaning other areas of your home. Other places to consider cleaning:
• Refrigerator - a jammed packed refrigerator can increase your power bill.
• Closets - de-cluttering the closet can decrease the time it takes to get ready for work or school in the morning.
• Car - Throw away all the trash, place items in the storage areas of your car, then wash and vacuum it at the car care center located in your apartment community. Top it off with a little car freshener to have it feeling like new again. By having a clean and organized car, you will reduce the stress of your daily commute. Not to mention, you will no longer hear that water bottle rolling around the back seat.
Cleaning supplies can be expensive! A great way to save money on your spring cleaning supplies is to buy them at your local dollar store. According to the Good Housekeeping Institute, the ingredients in the dollar store brands are comparable with that of name brands and they are cheaper.
